Today I set Number One Incubator going. As seen here it is an RCom -20 Pro from Bell South. It is completely automatic with digital temperature of 37.5 degrees C and humidity 45% control and egg turning every hour. When the eggs are 2 days from hatch date (it counts down the days) the Incubator turns the egg turning facility off ready for the chicks to hatch and sends the humidity up to 65%. The less human interference in the process the better and the more reliable will be the hatch rate. A friend of mine started with one of the foam manual turn incubators and had very little success as evey time she opened the lid ti turn the eggs the humidity would plummet.
These chicks are due to hatch on Friday 12 August 2011. I shall keep the blog up to date on their progress.
